We define the delayed Lévy-driven continuous-time autoregressive process via the inverse of the stable subordinator. We derive correlation structure for the observed non-stationary delayed Lévy-driven continuous-time autoregressive processes of order p, emphasizing low orders, and we show they exhibit long-range dependence property. Distributional properties are discussed as wel

Correlated continuous time random walks and fractional Pearson diffusions

Continuous time random walks have random waiting times between particle jumps. We define the correlated continuous time random walks (CTRWs) that converge to fractional Pearson diffusions (fPDs). The jumps in these CTRWs are obtained from Markov chains through the Bernoulli urn-scheme model and Wright-Fisher model. The jumps are correlated so that the limiting processes are not Lévy but diffusion processes with non-independent increments. The waiting times are selected from the domain of attraction of a stable law

This paper examines how the rehabilitation of the offender can be understood within Restorative Justice. Considering that concepts such as the reintegration of those who have committed a crime have been raised, fundamentally, within Criminal Law, having as the center of analysis the purposes of punishment, it is worth asking whether the special preventive thesis can also be applied to Restorative Justice, considering that this rests on other pillars other than punishment. Likewise, it is analyzed whether restorative practices can have an impact on the reduction of recidivism and in what way notions such as criminal desistance can be understood today, in terms of promoting changes in the offender's behavior towards the avoidance of committing new crimes.

VanityX: An Agile 3D Rendering Platform Supporting Mixed Reality

    No full text
VanityX is a prototype, low-level, real-time 3D rendering and computing platform. Unlike most XR solutions, which integrate several commercial and/or open-source products, such as game engines, XR libraries, runtime, and services, VanityX is a platform ready to adapt to any business domain including anthropology and medicine. The design, architecture, and implementation are presented, which are based on CPU and GPU asymmetric multiprocessing with explicit synchronization and collaboration of parallel tasks and a predictable transfer of pipeline resources between processors. The VanityX API is based on DirectX 12 and native programming languages C++20 and HLSL 6, which, in conjunction with explicit parallel processing, the asynchronous loading and explicit managing of graphic resources, and effective algorithms, results in great performance and resource utilization close to metal. Surface-based rendering, direct volume rendering (DVR), and mixed reality (MR) on the HoloLens 2 immersive headset are currently supported. Our MR applications are directly compiled and deployed to HoloLens 2 allowing for better programming experiences and software engineering practices such as testing, debugging, and profiling. The VanityX server provides various computational and rendering services to its clients running on HoloLens 2. The use and test cases are in many business domains including anthropology and medicine. Our future research challenges will primarily, via the MetaverseMed project, focus on opening new opportunities for implementing innovative MR-based scenarios in medical procedures, especially in education, diagnostics, and surgical operations

Trends of Late Presentation to Care in Patients with Chronic Hepatitis C during a 10-Year Period in Croatia

Late presentation to care is the major obstacle to receiving treatment for chronic hepatitis C (CHC). Our aim was to analyze the prevalence and trends of late presenters (LP) at first consultations in Croatia during a 10-year period. This retrospective cross-sectional study included all adult CHC patients (n = 854) entering specialist medical care at the University Hospital for Infectious Diseases Zagreb between 2009 and 2018. LP was defined as liver stiffness measurement ≥ 9.5 kPa or biopsy METAVIR F ≥ 3. During the study period, mean patients’ age increased from 37 to 52 years while HCV genotype distribution changed leading to the replacement of genotype 1b with 1a (g1b 32% to 21%; g1a 19% to 38%). A total of 320 (37.4%) were LP; they were older (47.5, IQR 40.5–57.6), and more commonly infected with g1b (34.1%) and g3 (42.5%). The prevalence of LP significantly increased from 31.9% in 2009 to 46.5% in 2018. Late presentation for care of CHC is increasing in Croatia suggesting a gap of diagnosing strategies in patients over 50 years

Although oral ulcers represent one of the most frequent oral mucosal diseases, the available treatment is not sufficient to provide complete ulcer recovery without side-effects. Therefore, the aim of our study was to prepare a mucoadhesive oral gel based on Galium verum ethanol extract (GVL gel) and reveal its healing effects in the model of aphthous stomatitis in rats. Rats with oral ulcers were divided into the following groups: control (untreated), gel base (ulcer was treated with the gel base, three times per day for 10 days), and GVL gel group (the ulcer was treated with GVL gel in the same way as the gel base). Animals from each group were sacrificed on days 0, 3, 6, and 10 for collecting blood and ulcer tissue samples. Healing properties of oral gel were determined by clinical evaluation, as well as biochemical and histopathological examinations. Our findings suggest a significant decrease in the ulcer size in GVL gel group, with healing effects achieved through the alleviation of oxidative stress, reduction in COX-2 immunopositivity, and increase in collagen content in buccal tissue. Significant ulcer repairing potential of GVL gel highlights this oral mucoadhesive gel as a promising tool for prevention and treatment of RAS
